Tube Swap

Question for anyone who knows anything about amps. I believe it is ok to do this but I just want to double check to make sure. I have a Randall RG200D G3 combo amp (yes you were all right the effects totally take away from the tone...grr) and lets face it, the distortion that comes with this amp totally does not cut it for me. 1. Would it WORK if I replaced the 12AT7 Tube that is in my amp and swap it with a 12AX7 Tube? (or any other's you all can recommend) 2. Also, would doing such swap have any greater effect on the sound that comes through? 3. Do you think this is even worth it or should I just wait to get a brand new amp sometime in the future, or just continue relying on stomp boxes to get a better tone. Thanks!

just one tube, and I think it is a solid state as well.
Here are some of the specs according to the musicians friend website.

-240 Watt combo with new "Valve-Dynamic" power (what are they implying by valve-dynamic?)
-12AT7 tube driven MOSFET power circuit (what is mosfet?)

MV-CTM

MOSFET is a type of transistor

and...that tube has nothing to do with the preamp so it will not effect the distorted sound at all.
