Difference between Standard, Deluxe, and Custom?

This mainly pertains to the 80s and 90s ESPs, where I've seen guitars labelled, for instance, Mirage Custom, M-II Deluxe, M-II, Eclipse Deluxe/Custom/whatever, and I got to wondering. All these guitars WERE production models, right? a "The Mirage Custom" is a production model, not a CS-made guitar, despite saying Custom, considering they have relatively identical specs. Is it similar to the current scheme of having, for instance, the Horizon FR-II and the Horizon Custom? In summary: on 90s ESPs, "Custom" denotes a set of features, not CS production, right?

Usually "custom" meant neck-thru and eboner board. But don't read into to it too deep. ESP had no consistency during that time period with model names, serial numbers, features, etc. I know everyone has to know what year their guitar was made and that it was the custom shoppe super double secret probation one-off ninja edition originally owned by _____________, but in reality either you like the guitar or you don't.
