Hi!  What would be about the largest string gauge those Grovers/the nut will take without modification, or replacement?  Having issues finding specifications   Thx!

5 years since I have this guitar already and I'm a fan of ESP guitars (have also a 6-string bass). I can start with the conclusion that the price of an instrument does not influence its sound. MH-417 sounds much better than many other twice-pricier 7-string guitars I have tried from any brand. I've been recording with the MH-417 for quite a while, but I did slight modification of the pickups as I don't like the 81-7 (or 81 in 6-string guitars) on the bridge. The 81 is moved on the neck and I bought from EMG an 85-7X that I put on the bridge. One of my industrial metal albums has half of the songs recorded with this guitar - the sound is unprecedented and playability of the guitar is excellent! The final mastered same song from the previous link.

Glad you enjoy it and thanks for sharing!

What country are these models made in?

Carl N.

These are currently made in Indonesia and Korea, hope this helps!

I've owned and played this guitar for around 2 years now and feel it would be beneficial to share pros and cons about it.  The guitar is beautiful, and plays incredibly well. I'm a big fan of satin finishes. The neck is smooth, and feels great. The major downside for me was the volume knob placement. I had to remove the knob to keep my hand from hitting it while playing. This should be a simple fix. The next downside was the the nut seems too low on the low strings. Regardless of being setup correctly, the strings will rattle against the first few frets when played open, and have a large amount of fret buzz while playing across the board. This could be mine in particular, not really sure. Finally, the gear ratio in the tuners seems to be really low. A very slight tweak causes a substantial change in tuning. Despite the cons, the guitar is great, and I've recorded many tracks with it. I'd give it a solid 7.5/10.

Gregory H.

Please, do not make guitars with a matte finish. It is terrible to maintain. All large guitar brands do this, but that's not a good idea.

Carl N.

Thank for your suggestion Gregory, good thing we have plenty of glossy models to please you for the time being.

Gregory H.

It is true. No producer making metal guitars has as many instruments in a glossy finish as LTD. Maybe I'll add a few dollars more and buy MH-1007 instead of MH-417. Best regards.

Carl N.

Hey Gregory, not really sure I can confirm or deny this, there are a lot of manufacturers out there producing instruments in gloss and satin finishes.  Hope you enjoy whatever instrument you end up with!

James P.

Some of us such as myself prefer matte models and would rather ESP keep making them.

Carl N.

Thanks for sharing James!

Just buy a glossy guitar, Gregory. Personally I own just 3 glossy guitars, that I keep because I like them nonetheless, but in the end I got rid of everything without a satin finish. Thank heavens guitar makers stopped making everything glossy and shiny years ago. However you see it it’s always good to have a choice, isn’t it?

robert k.

Is there any chance there will be a sunburst purple one and can hetsets. Be installed

Todd B. ESP

Hi Robert, there are no plans to make this model with purple sunburst at this time but thanks for the suggestion. Het Sets can be installed into any guitar, but we don't offer that as an option so you'd have to do that after purchase.

andre a.

Please a 6 string version ( non baritone ).

Todd B. ESP

Hi andre, thanks for your suggestion.

Grinder Sin

They do.

Harry Gandler

Amazing guitar! Any possibility to get this model with a reversed headstock neck? As this model it also available as left hand.

Todd B. ESP

Hi Harry, Sorry it's not possible to order this model with a reversed headstock. Yes it is available in LH. Here is the link: https://www.espguitars.com/products/10240-mh-417-blks-l-h?category_id=1963304-mh-series

defjones

I wish they would make this model in a baritone style again.  The MH-417B they used to make was amazing.

Todd B. ESP

Hey defjones, Thanks for your suggestion. Have you tried both models out?

Axel T.

Same here. I would buy it instantly if it was brought back.

Todd B. ESP

Hey Axel, thanks for adding your comment here.

Conor H.

I bought this guitar however mine is a little different. It has a different twelfth fret inlay and it says the model on the truss rod cover. Why is this?

Miguel G.

Are you guys gonna start removing the 12th fret logo on esp-II models as welll???

Todd B. ESP

Hi Miguel, There is no plan to remove the logo at 12th fret for E-II but that could change in the future.

Ték Máté

This guitar is simply amazing. The only problem is the bridge gets a little dirty from my hand. I’d definetly get another one if it was stolen.

mad son

I love my 417 I would never part with it.although it is white now with white emgs.i think it looks better.

Todd B. ESP

Hi Mad, That sounds cool. Glad you like it.
