    The Fake ESP Thread

    Pushead and I are here to help verify ESP and LTD guitars. If you have, or are looking to buy a guitar that you're unsure of, post pictures and questions in this thread. Please post clear pictures of the front and back of the headstock, the fretboard, and the front and back of the body. Preferably before you buy anything.

    Anyone else is free to offer suggestions on authenticity. If you answer a post, please tell us why you think it's real or fake.

                  Dear ESP specialists, im not sure about the authenticity of this black superstrat (mirage style). Here are all the details, could you guys help me? Thanks!!

                  Seller says its an ESP 48th Street,new york custom guitar once bought in the famous store. It occurred to me that there is no 48th custom logo on the headstock and no 48th N.Y backplate, instead there’s an ESP backplate which serial number tells us its made in japan 1985. I have asked If he could check underneath the neck/body for other serials. No reply yet.

                  Do all 48th customs have branding? Or was it possible to leave that out if preffered?

                  To me the body resembles the famous 80s esp mirage, but i haven’t found one on the internet with only 1 knob (volume) instead of the regular 2. 

                  im not an expert, what do you guys think!

                      Hi there٫ I´ve recently purchased an esp ltd ce256fm cobalt blue guitar and the serial number is wi21032725 and I was wondering if it is an authentic one or not

                        Ruben, it's hard to tell without the logos, but the headstock shape seems reasonable (though I don't know for sure if they were using that shape as early as 85.)

                        Hamid, we'd need photos of the guitar to know for sure. The serial number points toward it being a 2021 model.

                          i've just read that sometimes in the early 48th street times they didnt even stamp their headstocks but ofcourse its a mistery.

                          What do you think about the body that has the (original?) ESP backplate, is it legit you think? Looks custom made because of the knob configuration though.

                          I might go for it, hope it plays like a dream

                                Eh, I'm not feeling this one. In the best case scenario, it's been refinished. But, the volute looks wrong to me, the logos and what not on the back are suspect, all the hardware has been replaced (or is just wrong), the binding on the headstock seems pretty poorly done.

                                If it were me, I'd pass on this one.
