Just wanted to give my two cents, for $6k, it's a little unfortunate that this Horizon and many other ESP Original Series and E-II neck through guitars all have solid gloss black backs instead of a natural or transparent color that matches the front color. It just seems really lazy and cheap in my opinion as gloss black shows fingerprints and scratches very easily. With a natural or transparent color that matches the front color, it helps to show off the beautiful wood and neck through joint while solid gloss black hides all of it. I'd expect this with say like a $300 guitar with aesthetically flawed wood, but for the price of an E-II or ESP Original Series, it's quite unfortunate. Even if the wood on the ESP Original is aesthetically flawed, I'd rather see the flawed wood rather than solid black. It's just frustrating because in years past with ESP Standard Series and older Custom Shop/Original Series stuff, the back was a matching transparent color. Still, I do love that ESP USA made guitars are now very much embracing natural backs or matching color backs and stainless steel frets. Hopes this spreads throughout the ESP range. If you do end up reading this, I really appreciate your time. Don't get me wrong though, I still love ESP!
Hi Sunny, Thank you for your feedback, suggestions and mostly for being honest. We do appreciate any and all kinds of feedback from you. Our ESP Originals more recently have used discrete metallic colors on the backs of the instruments. This was a new approach to offer something maybe more modern however we understand what you are saying about wanting to see the wood grains on the backs and sides of the instruments. Your comments will be shared with our development team. Keep in mind that all ESP Originals are built in our custom shop so should you want to make an alteration to the finish, it is totally possible, although the instruments we stock will be the ones with the current finish configuration. Could this guitar be modified with different pickups? Say a set of EMG 57/66?
Hi Tom, This model comes standard with the pickups you see on our website, so that is what we stock and sell. If you wanted to change it, it would be possible but it would have to be special ordered as a custom order.
Thanks Todd. Who in SoCal would ESP recommend for re-fretting when the time comes? The Custom Shop fretwork is so precise with extreme tolerances in regards to neck installation...even a good luthier would not be able to re-fret and have the guitar look the same.
Hi Jason, You shouldn't need a refret for quite a few years or more depending on how much you play. I will check with our people here and let you know if we have someone to recommend for this type of work. I know what you mean about finding a good luthier or repair person who does quality work. That is important on a high end instrument like this.

What radius fingerboard does this guitar have?
Also...
I was adjusting intonation and a shim under a saddle slipped out. Is it the B and e string that have the shims from the factory?

Hi Jason, The fingerboard radius is 305mm (12"). For the saddles, there are 3 different heights of saddles. The 2 center saddles (D/G) are the highest, then the next saddles (A/B) are the middle height, and finally the E/E outside saddles are the lowest height. This creates a radius to match the fingerboard, however you can add shims as necessary to further adjust the radius on the bridge. It should not be necessary to use shims. Love the guitar (favorite out of my Gibsons/Fenders/etc.), I get hypnotized by the 3D waves when you look at it from the side. Have to hold it and play it to really truly appreciate the awesome workmanship that goes into these CTM models. I originally bought the EII version, but decided on the CTM...the extra cost is well justified.

Hi Jason, It's great to hear this. Thank you for explaining the noticeable difference in the materials and craftsmanship. That is sometimes hard to explain but when you see this model in person it truly is awesome!
So I took out all the shims and what a night and day difference. The floyds ship with shims for a 10” radius by default. Thanks again.
Hi Jason, Thanks for pointing this out. Yes typically the FR ships from the supplier with shims for a smaller radius, but it's not necessary for our fingerboard radius. Sorry that you had to take them out and they weren't already dialed in for you. Do you mind telling me if you purchased this in the USA or another country?

Hi Jason, Glad to help you out. No, we don't use stainless frets on these. They are very high quality frets made by Jescar in Germany, but not stainless. Currently we only use stainless on our USA made guitars and stainless can be requested on custom orders.
