Will there be any more offering for baritone 6 range I know there is the MH and viper models but will there be any new styles or speck changes like maybe slightly longer scale lengths perhaps in 27.5-28.5 range.

Carl G.

Hi, I have just purchased an ESP LTD MH-401BFM which I believe is a baritone guitar like this one. I was wondering if in its current set up it could handle being tuned up to Drop C tuning. It’s an eBay 2nd hand purchase so I can’t return it so will live with it if it can’t but thought I’d ask. Should have investigated before purchasing really but never mind

Steve G.

100% no issue it will handle almost any tuning you throw at it. I own 2 MH-400B and they have been the most reliable guitars I have ever had. I have one tuned down to drop A (13-56 strings) and the other in a very conservative drop C (11-50 strings). They honestly stay in tune better than my $5000 Les Paul and are way more reliable/sturdy on the road.

Carl G.

Hi Steve G. I appreciate your response and glad to hear you have tried tuning up to drop C with no issues. Did you have to use lower gauge strings for this or will the standard strings be ok? I know a guy in Birmingham here in the UK who does professional set ups so I might hit him up for a price to be on the safe side

Todd B. ESP

Hi Carl, Yes the guitar should be fine but you will need to adjust your tension on the neck and your string gauge, intonation and string height adjustments. We always suggest having an experience repair person do this unless you are familiar with what needs to be done. Please contact our customer service team should you have more questions or need help. Hope you like your instrument when you get it set up! here is our customer service team: customerservice@espguitars.com

I just received my MH-400B and was surprised to find that it was tuned to E standard. The neck appeared to be bowed in a little bit. I tuned it down to B standard and the neck appears to be reacting well. I hope there was no negative impact of the guitar being in E standard from when it left the shop to me receiving it....

This guitar is almost perfect and I'm thinking of getting it. However I'd love to replace the Grover tuners with locking tuners. What are the measurements of the stock tuners?

Acquired one of these guitars recently, but I do not play detuned, play only in standard E tuning.  Can I use this guitar for standard E tuning with .010 gauge strings without negative impact to tension, stability and tuning?  Am especially curious about the impact of the deep belly curve on the back and how that would impact higher standard tension.  Thanks!

Carl N.

Yes, when setup properly you can play in standard tuning.

Declan T.

This guitar has already got standard tuning with the addition of a LOW B string. It doesn't have your regular high E.It is strung from B to B.  The neck is longer as it is a BARITONE. Tighter feeling strings for lower tuning and stability.

Jared I.

Then what's  the point of having a baritone if you don't  drop tune?

Larson C.

Can this guitar setup with 13-72 gauge strings do drop B flat tuning? If so I will but one

Carl N.

Most, if not all of our instruments could be setup with these specifications if done properly

Question about the EMG pickups: While I’m fond of the saturated and aggressive sound active pickups provide, can they deal with cleaner tones without breaking up?

With pickups this hot, I don’t know if this guitar is right for me. I need a guitar that does both and I still want to be able to play my quiet and laid back ambient tunes without feeling like I’m going into djent mode.

I mean, I love djent, I just don’t want to always djent, Y’know?

Also, is a 13-70 set good for this guitar? Will I need any major adjustments or will it the nut handle the strings just fine? Im a heavy handed player who likes to dig in with her picking hand to I have to compensate for it.

Thanks!

Carl N.

tone and string gauges are very subjective, while this instrument can make a multitude of tones ultimately you can tailor this to your tastes via your amp or effects line.  It is always recommended to have your instrument professionally setup when changing string gauges or tuning.

Jonathan H.

I really like this guitar and its EMG pickups for ambient sound. The neck pickup can sound cristal clear with proper amp/fx adjustments.

Mic M.

Which is the lowest tuning I can play on it? Does it play well in low E?

Carl N.

With the right strings and a proper setup you shouldn't have any issues playing in that tuning...though maybe you'd rather play a bass at that end.

Declan T.

I actually tune mine to low L. L for LOWWWWWWWW

What is this guitar tune to

Carl N.

Hey Robert, B standard, you can view all of our tunings via our FAQ page, hope this helps!

Alexander Palma

Hello. Will this guitar need any modifications in order to fit thick gauges? I'm considering a 74 for the 6th. My current guitar (different brand) needed it and I'm not sure I'm willing to do that in this price range. Thanks!

Carl N.

Hey Leo, yes the nut will have to be cut to accommodate the larger strings and the instrument would need a full setup after such a change.  Has nothing to do with the price range, an ESP custom shop instrument would still need all of this done after making such a drastic change to the strings.

Alexander Palma

Hi Carl, thanks for the response! I was aware of the things you mentioned; I was thinking more along the lines of the bridge and tuning heads needing to be drilled or replaced, which was a major headache. I've seen (cheap) guitars that couldn't fit a 46 stock. I take it I shouldn't be worried then? Thanks again!

Carl N.

I see what you mean Leo, might need a little bit of modifications at that end, though these don't take too much time or effort.  Largest string we use on guitars is a 68 I believe, so a 74 might need some word in order to fit and function properly.

Alexander Palma

Hi there! Just wanted to follow up - I ultimately used a 72 as I found a better balanced set for my tuning. It took only minimal sanding within the tuning post for it to fit, and no changes at all to the string-thru part of the bridge! I'm pretty pleased with this. My other guitar was a nightmare.
Also, in case anyone could use this bit of info, the string came tapered at the end (it's an Ernie Ball). On a reverse headstock, I'm pretty sure no modifications whatsoever would have been needed as the tapered section was even thinner than my 5th string (a 56). With the regular headstock, though, it'd have made for way too much wrap instead, so just sand it out.
Thanks again!

Edit: Just to be clear, the nut -does- need to be set up all over again. That one is a given for anyone considering this kind of gauge.

Carl N.

thanks for sharing

ANTHONY M.

I have this guitar and its a beast ..really is...ruined all my other guitars for me lol....mine however has an Evertune in it.    I would buy another one for a back up because i just love this guitar...can that be done through ESP?  have Blackouts in it also.  Pure Metal! \m/   not many other ESP/LTD 27" guitars out there.

Carl N.

Hey Anthony, the instruments shown on our site are only available within the specifications listed within their descriptions.  While any pickup can be installed after purchase, we do not currently install alternate pickups than what the instrument is specified to come equipped with.

Tom D.

Todd B. ESP Carl N. how much difference in price do you think it would be if I had this made through the custom shop, exact same specs except not a baritone. Standard scale length 25.5

This guitar is absolute brilliant and looks awesome.

Carl N.

Hey Tom, you would need to submit a custom order form to one of our authorized dealers for a quote on your build but most ESP custom shop instruments start around $5,000 - $6,000.

Garret T.

Is this model available with a floating bridge?

Carl N.

Hey Garret, though we do make a few MH models with a Floyd Rose this will be the only configuration this model is available in.  Here are the other available MH models.

Alejandro Z.

Hi ESP. I found this guitar look very similar to the AJ-1 model (that i know it is no longer available), reading the comments i understand that the distance and type of pick ups it is because the baritone scale. It's interesting to have the baritone option, but I'm still looking the way to get an AJ-1, any plans to reissue?

Todd B. ESP

Hi Alejandro, There are no plans to issue the AJ-1, but you might be able to find one used or still available because they were only discontinued recently (last year).

Remi V.

im sorry but what is a bariton?

Todd B. ESP

Hi Remi, A baritone is an extended scale length and lower tuning. This guitar has a 27" scale which is 1.5" longer than a standard scale guitar. And the tuning is tuned down to B-E-A-D-F#-B, so it's like removing the high E string of a regular tuned guitar and adding a low B, then tuned like a regular guitar tuning but starting with a low B instead of an E String. Hope that helps.

andre a.

Please a non baritone version, it would make all of us happy!

Tom D.

I agree dude. Non baritone version of this guitar would be awesome! We can only dream

Todd B. ESP

Hi Tom, Thanks for letting us know.

Todd B. ESP

Hi Andre, thanks for that suggestion.
