Just got one of these.

Very happy

Samuli B.

Currently leaning heavily on getting this one after I get some stuff sold first. It has everything I want in a guitar. Pickup might not be what I'm after but that's personal preference and can be changed easily. If there was a Viper with these specs it might be a hard choice but now it's looking like this will be my next guitar.

Todd B. ESP

Hi, Glad to hear that and hope you get a chance to play one of these!

Samuli B.

Just found one used and paid for it this morning. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Is this version of the ec blackmetal (hardtail) also going to come with stainless steel frets?

Carl N.

if you have any questions you may reach out to our customer service team at customerservice@espguitars.com or https://www.espguitars.com/pages/support

Is the potentiometer in this model 500k or 250k? I'm installing a BW without the coil tap option and want to get a similar tone from my back up guitar.

Carl N.

These will be 500k

Thanks Carl

Bought a 2019 Korean model its sounds awesome had bit of neck dive but easily fixed it by moving bottom strap button and putting few weights in cavity The pick up is awesome has great buzz free action all good

Carl N.

Cool, thanks for sharing!

Mark C.

Which models of the ec-1000 are lighter in weight? Where can I see weight comparisons?

Carl N.

Our instruments are not regulated by weight but most EC instruments will have similar weights.

Austin R.

I am very interested in picking up this guitar but was wondering if there are lefty models for it. I can’t seem to find any option to switch between standard and lefty on the product page or cart. Any help?

Carl N.

Hey Austin, the left handed version was discontinued, though some dealers may still have these on hand.

Devan Arya

So I am super annoyed because I have been waiting for this new guitar for a very long time and it came without a proper quality control!

Just unboxed my new EC Black Metal, however the fretboard seems to be a little weird.
From the 12th till the 24th fret the build doesn't look well to me, it looks like has glue peeling off on the side part. They almost look like scalloped frets.

Additionally, the 24th fret on the B string area has a small hole.
I'm kind of disappointed with this guitar to be honest, it's sold as a 1000 series guitars and it costs 700,00 €. I was expecting something more well built. My discontinued LTD EC-50 model looks with better quality than this...

One of the things that ESP has been saying about guitars built in Indonesia is that they are still under a high level of quality control but this is not the case, it was built in Korea, this guitar was definitely neglected and it's not on conditions to be delivered to a customer!

This guitar was bought brand new, it's not a B-Stock nor a hanged exposed guitar from the shop.

Carl N.

Hey Devan, sorry you're displeased with this instrument.  From your pictures here it is a little hard to discern the extent of your problems with this.  With regards to the binding, this appears to be smoothed over instead of the hard flat line you were expecting, not really a cause for concern but this appears to be a concern for you.  If you're dissatisfied, take it back to your dealer, or you can reach out to our customer service department at customerservice@espguitars.com

Devan Arya

It's the black coat of the neck that is very badly constructed

Carl N.

Hey Devan, these will have a macassar ebony fingerboard and there will be no black finish over top of this.  If you have issues with this instrument first place to go would be the dealer this was purchased from, if you need additional assistance our customer service team is always here to help.

Devan Arya

I meant the neck sorry. However this seems clearly a problem of quality control. I've sent it back to Thomann and they will deal with the guitar. Thank you for your availability.

Carl N.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention Devan.

F F.

Hi, how difficult is it to install a push-pull coil split on this guitar?

thanks

Carl N.

Hey F F, all depends on your individual skill level.  Shouldn't take more than five minutes for someone who knows that they are doing.

WillAdler'sDouble

Can this guitar do clean tone as well? I wanna sound super chill and then scare the shit out of people.

Carl N.

Hey Guitar kid, the Black Winter are ceramic pickups so they have a fairly high output level but will sound great clean or overdriven.

Kay C.

What’s the story on the fret markers? Do they have to be charged to glow and, if so, how?

Carl N.

Hey Kay, this will use Photoluminescent plastic, which when it absorbs light, will GLOW!!  You can use a flashlight to charge these before playing.  UV light charges the material faster and for a longer duration.

Kay C.

Thank you for that info!

Kay C.

Now make this exact same guitar with a 22 fret scale and a bevelled edge at the top instead of that sharp archtop edge and you'll have made the perfect guitar!

Carl N.

Thanks for your suggestion!  I'll get right on it!

Kay C.

Excellent! Put a super thin C shredder neck on it and I’m down for two pre-orders!

Seriously, it’s a great guitar!

Carl N.

Thanks for the suggestion Kay!

A. Kolbin

What's the difference between this Blackened Black Winter and the Standard Black Winter?

Carl N.

Hey Alexis, our black winter pickups will have a black Seymour Duncan logo.

A. Kolbin

Thanks Carl, so there is no difference sound wise?

Carl N.

Hey Alexis, the color of the logo will not affect the sound of the pickup, they'll be voiced the same.

A. Kolbin

Thank you

Devan Arya

This guitar is just beautiful, I like every part of it, the minimalist layout, the premium feel from the black satin finish, the volume knob solely, neck without inlays, everything is just perfect.

They say "less is more" and as a minimalist, this guitar just fits perfectly for me.

I own a discontinued model LTD EC-50 black satin and I'm seriously considering upgrading to this model.

As I enjoy playing clean sometimes, by chance, in the future, will you produce this exact model with a neck pickup included?

Carl N.

Hey Devan, glad you enjoy the styling of this.  As for a neck pickup...probably not, the main allure of this series is the stripped down minimalist features so we will probably stick with the single pickup configuration for the Black Metal series.

Devan Arya

And is this guitar comfortable to play in D standard or down to Drop C? My EC-50 is a lower line of LTD EC guitars and it sounds great.

Carl N.

Hey Devan, all of our instruments will be comfortable to play in nearly any tuning.  We ship out instruments setup in E standard so it would be necessary to have this setup to your specific tuning and string gauges afterwards.  We always recommend having a professional perform this type of work if you are unfamiliar with the practice.

Joseph R.

I just received mine. Mixed feelings about it so far. I pitted it against an older AA-600

1. Wishing that the logo on the headstock was painted or engraved instead of it being plastic. Makes the guitar Feel cheap.

2. Tuners also feel cheap compared to older LTD locking tuners on my AA-600.

3. The nut is sharp as heck on the ends and not smooth or rounded off.

Guitar Center told me it was made in South Korea, this one came from Indonesia.

Carl N.

Hey Joseph, thanks for sharing your insight.

To respond back to your points,

The logo on this instrument  is made of a metal that is painted black, not plastic.  Might just feel that way with paint over top of it.

The tuners on this model are the same tuners as on your AA-600, these just have different buttons and are black instead of black satin.

Sharp nuts are typically addressed here during our quality control process but since we have humans performing these inspections it is possible for such things to make it out of our facility and into your local shop.

Not sure why guitar center would portray that as such, perhaps the individual you spoke with had only seen one that had been made in Korea.  These instruments are currently being produced in Korea and Indonesia, country of origin shouldn't dissuade you from enjoying an instrument.

If you feel there are any warrantable issues with your instrument you may always reach out to our customer service department for further assistance, they can be reached at customerservice@espguitars.com

Joseph R.

Thanks Carl. I think it would still be a cool idea to do the logo in paint, stamp or even engraved.

I do appreciate that you took the time to clear those things up here in the forum.

Carl N.

You got it, Joseph.  Thanks again for the suggestion!

Joseph R.

I’d love to see a telecaster body with a reverse headstock, and hardtail in this series...

Carl N.

Hey Joseph, don't forget about our AA-600 model!  Alan beat us all to the party by making his signature model in line with what a TE Black Metal would have been!  Only thing missing is the hardtail.

Emperor

Got this model a little less than a year ago. Definitely lives up to the hype of being comparable to their 1000 series but with less options. I know some people were concerned about where it was manufactured, but this model came to me in perfect condition and no flaws. The EC model specifically felt best when I tried some out, and still feels great to this day. The guitar has held up very well and was well worth the price, if anything it felt like a bargain. The glow in the dark side markers are a nice touch if playing in a darker environment. I do hope you continue expanding the black metal series, as I would happily look to buy another guitar from this line. This has definitely become one of my favorite guitars that I own, so I highly recommend it.

Todd B. ESP

Hi Emperor, Thank you so much for your positive review of this model. We're always excited to hear this kind of  feedback and we thank you for trusting in ESP to deliver you quality guitars!
