luis h.

I just got a used KH202. and I just bought the emg bone breaker pickups but are active. will there be a problem with the battery fitting since this model is passive??

Todd B. ESP

Hi luis, You can fit the battery inside the electronics compartment, just wrap it in some thin foam or similar material so the battery contacts don't touch any of the wiring. You should be ok. That's the way we used to install batteries in the old days before we switched to separate compartments.

Why isn’t the KH-JR sold here or was it a limited run cause I’m very interested in getting one.

Ricky_Cage-1349

That was a limited run man. A few of em pop up on eBay, and Reverb from time to time.

Todd B. ESP

Hi Keaton, We only produced the KH-JR for a limited period and currently don't offer it.

On the kh 202 is it safe to lemon oil the fretboard

Todd B. ESP

Hi William, yes it is. just use a little bit and rub it into the wood until you see the color darken slightly. You don't need to put a lot on, then wipe it off with a dry cloth.

Aydin H.

hi, i bought a kh202 about 4 years ago from bmusic in australia however mine has black nickel or black chrome hardware and not black. the trussrod cover also doesnt have any markings on it and the pickups simply say esp. Also on the 24th fret it says KH-202 instead of having two skull and crossbones inlays like it is pictured here. Is my guitar a legit one or have you guys changed the design of the kh202? Also ive always wondered why the kh202 doesnt have kirks signature on the headstock. cheers, Aydin

Todd B. ESP

Hi Aydin, Your guitar sounds legit, especially if you bought it from an authorized ESP Dealer. We did make these changes that you noted, and for 200 series, we don't usually put the signatures on the headstock.

Aydin H.

Hi Todd, thanks for your response, glad to know my guitar is not a knock off haha. Just out of curiosity may I ask why esp made these changes? it is meant to be a signature guitar so shouldnt it be left as it was, by changing it t no longer resembles kirks guitar haha. but now that i think of it i dont believe he ever had black nickel hardware on his guitars. from my knowledge it has always been black. The pickups fair enough as they are esp pickups so u may do as you wish with them but why the change in neck finish? Dont feel like im attacking you or picking on esp haha im just curious. i love esp btw, it is my favorite guitar company out of all of them

Todd B. ESP

Hey Aydin, I appreciate all your comments although it is hard to answer them all here. The 200 signature series generally is not as close to the original artist's guitar which he plays. That being said, there will be differences like hardware colors and parts which are different from the 600 series LTD and the ESP. We've made some changes like fingerboard wood, ESP Designed pickup logos, Black hardware instead of black nickel for a lot of other models as well. It's simple a running change that may happen from time to time. We feel like this current version of the KH-202 is really nice. It does have the satin finish on the back of the neck which many people prefer (some people ask for the KH-602 to be natural satin or gloss on the back of neck). Anyway glad you are an ESP fan and thanks for your support and passion!

Also another question, has the body always been made of bass wood and the fret board of roasted jatoba? I'm not sure why or how but i was under the impression that the body was made of mahogany and the fret board was rosewood. I'm not sure if my guitar is mahogany and rosewood and you guys have since changed this on the kh202 or possibly it has always been this way and my guitar too is bass wood and roasted jatoba

Todd B. ESP

Hi Aydin, if you have an old one it is probably basswood and rosewood fingerboard. We changed fingerboards from rosewood to Jatoba last year. that was one of our site wide running changes that was done.

Aydin H.

Thanks for your response Todd, i really appreciate you answering all my questions  I was just a little more worried about the fact that it was so different now and i was wondering if mine was even legit and i was just curious about what changes had been made so i can better understand my instrument. Thanks for your time, cheers.

Todd B. ESP

Hey Aydin, you got it!

angga

hi Aydin & Todd, sorry jumping in after several months.
i bought this twice.
second one, bought beginning of this year, Indonesian made. but with black hardware, "KH-202" is in the cap next to locking-nut, but not on 24th fret.
first is China manufactured. yes, like Aydin's. with black-nickle hardware. no "KH-202" on cap next to locking-nut, but there's on 24th fret. i bought this 2011. tremolo already replaced with licensed FR, because of little rust. this is the risk if we dont keep it in dry, moreover like me, in Indonesia, with high humidity.
i love both, but prefer Indonesian.
just guessing, Aydin, yours is China made? am i wrong?

Todd B. ESP

Hi Angga, yes we have made that model in China and Indonesia. Hope you like it. We have changed the hardware color and the fingerboard inlays so sounds like you got the most recent version.

Aydin H.

Yes that is correct, mine was made in china

Chris G.

ThHi,

I just purchased one of these and I have a couple questions.

What gauge strings come on these from factory?

Can the fretboard be treated with Oil like a regular rosewood fretboard?

Thanks.

Todd B. ESP

Hi Chris, This model comes with D'Addario XL120 (.009/.011/.016/.024/.032/.042) strings. Yes you can use lemon oil or similar oil to rejuvenate the fretboard just like rosewood.
