Why do I see some some EC 1001FR with a heel similar to a les Paul and others are contoured to to the body for a smoother transition to the upper frets. And when did LTD move manufacturing for the 1000 series guitars to China/Indonesia. I just ordered a EC 1001FR and if it comes from China or Indo it will go back.

Hey Charlie, the shaping of the heel on these instruments has been updated a little while ago to the more rounded look that you see now.  1000 series LTDs are produced in both Indonesia and Korea, it's a shame you feel that way about instruments produced in Indonesia.  These are no different than their counterparts made in Korea, if we felt their quality of workmanship was that off we would not have them produced there.   Hope you enjoy your instrument when you receive it!

OK guys, I've been thinking about the next ESP LTD I want to buy while Sweetwater is having a sale this month. Unfortunately, I'm coming to the conclusion that (maybe) my best choice is to wait and see whether ESP will make something like this EC-1001FR with a rosewood fretboard --maybe with the black pearl fade coloration offered on the 400-level model in the EC series. My problem with buying another ebony or my first pau ferro fretboard is that I have an impression that when I turn up the tone knob on the guitar, the hardness/density of these woods causes a shrill, bright high-end tone. I can be convinced that there are workarounds for this (turn down presence or highs on amp), or that the difference is negligible, but I don't have a reliable metalhead to consult with on these ideas/impression. Tweaking the sound with the amp/graphic EQ or the tone knob seems like a good idea, but my problem with this is that the player is having to already compensate for undesirable brightness. Is all of this unwarranted and do you expect rosewood fingerboards to return in 2020 in the LTD EC lineup?

Carl N.

Hello Hekate, it would be safe to say that we do not plan to use rosewood fingerboards on this model.  For now, Pau Ferro and Ebony will be the standard spec for these instruments.  With that said, there are tonal differences that these woods produce but you can always tailor your specific tone from your amp/pedal lineup.

Hi guys, could u please tell me the grade of flamed maple you use on the esp/USA models . Do you use AAA grade maple? Cheers

Todd B. ESP

Hi Lee, We use 4A  for ESP USA maple.

Lee B.

Cheers for the reply, thanks I will do that, I am wanting a natural wood finish so hopefully that can be sorted.

Todd B. ESP

Hi Lee, That sounds good. Should be no problem to have the natural finish. As long as you are going with a transparent color on top with a figured wood, then it is the standard way they paint them now. Just be sure to double check with your dealer about this so they confirm it with the shop.

Hi could you please tell me what dictates wether a esp/USA m3 has a wood grain finish on the back or a straight black finish.does it depend on colour choice as I have see the copper sunburst model with both. I am in the process of ordering one from the configurator but unsure if it would have a black paint finish or wood finish on the back?do I get a choice as it doesn’t specify? Cheers

Hi Lee, This is probably a question for another department. You should run the configurator the best you can, then contact your dealer and explain what you want and ask if it's possible. I know that in the early years we used matching color or dark color on the back but these days we use natural color for the majority of the finishes. It's not really a choice on the configurator at this time.
