SK Sugar Gliders takes lead with win over Gyeongnam Development Corporation

No. 1 SK Sugar Gliders defeats No. 2 Gyeongnam Development Corporation to take a commanding lead in the standings.

SK Sugar Gliders defeated Gyeongnam Development Corporation 25-21 on Monday in the fourth game of the third round of the Shinhan SOL Pay 23-24 Handball H League Women's Division at Gijang Gymnasium in Gijang-gun, Busan, South Korea.

The SK Sugar Gliders, who continued their 10-game unbeaten streak, remained at the top of the standings with 15 wins, two draws and one loss, and 32 points. This gives them a commanding lead in the regular season standings.

After ending a six-match unbeaten streak, Gyeongnam Development Corporation remained in second place with 13 wins, two draws and three losses and 28 points, but with SK Sugar Gliders now four points behind them, the fight for first place has become more difficult.

The preview match was a tightly contested affair. Gyeongnam Development Corporation started the game with a 3-0 lead, thanks to a save from goalkeeper Osara. SK Sugar Gliders began to chip away at the lead when Kang Kyung-min scored the first goal in the sixth minute.

After a save from Lee Min-ji, SK Sugar Gliders scored five straight goals to take a 6-4 lead. The second half was dominated by saves from both goalkeepers. This time, Osara made a save to give Gyeongnam Development Corporation a 7-6 lead.

After a brief lull as the teams exchanged mistakes, Gyeongnam Development Corporation ended the first half with an 11-10 lead.

The second half was just as tight. The teams exchanged one-goal leads and went back and forth.

With just over 10 minutes left in the second half, the momentum quickly shifted as Kang Kyung-min, Yoo So-jung, and Kang Eun-hye scored back-to-back goals to give SK Sugar Gliders a three-point lead, 20-17.

Gyeongnam Development Corporation's mistakes and goalie 사설토토 Lee Min-ji's saves gave SK Sugar Gliders a four-point lead, 22-18, and they took the lead for good. In the end, SK Sugar Gliders won 25-21.

The SK Sugar Gliders were led offensively by Kang Kyung-min with seven goals and Kang Eun-hye with six goals, while Lee Min-ji was named MVP of the game with 12 saves.

Kim Sora and Lee Yeon-kyung led the offense with six goals apiece, while Osara made 13 saves in goal for the Gyeongnam Development Corporation.

"It was an important game for us to win the regular season, so we prepared a lot with the players, but we were nervous in the beginning and didn't play like that, but it worked out well in the second half as Lee Min-ji saved well," said SK Sugar Gliders head coach Kim Kyung-jin, who led the team to a 10-game unbeaten streak. "We will prepare to win all three remaining games."
