Quilted Maple

Quilted Maple lumber grows in the Pacific Northwest of North America. Specifically, areas as far south as the West Coast of California to as far north as British Columbia.

Quilt figure appears in Big Leaf Maple (acer macrophyllum). It is not commonly found in Hard Maple, Red Leaf or Silver Leaf Maple.

Highly figured quilted maple is rare. Additionally, it is one of the most expensive varieties of maple figure. It is less common than curly or flame figure. In fact, only 1 out of 100 big leaf maple trees exhibits quilt figure.

When sawn into book matched flitches, electric guitar builders use quilt figure for two piece book-matched guitar tops.
