    Polished ebony look

    Hi,

     

    I was scrolling through instagram and saw @kirzhammett (Japanese Kirk Hammett) and saw his beautiful ESP guitars. All of them seem to have a very shiny/polished rosewood/sometimes ebony fretboard. I have the LTD Sparkle Ouija’s which both have ebony fretboards and I was wondering if I could get the same look on them. I get that they use nicer, darker ebony on the custom shop ESP’s of course but still...

    i've done it with those micro mesh polishing pads from stew mac, starting with the lowest grit and working up to the finest. they work well for getting the board all the way up to the frets because they have a foam backing. it takes some elbow grease, i won't lie. don't think there's a magic solution besides putting the grunt work in. just remember to work with the grain of the wood. then for maintenance thereafter gorgomyte works wonders.
