SURVEYOR '87
DARK METALLIC PURPLE

While ESP first got started in 1975 as a small repair shop in Tokyo, it was really toward the mid ‘80s when our guitars and basses grabbed the attention of players around the world. The LTD ’87 Series are faithful recreations of this set of instruments from ESP’s 1987 catalog. With the LTD Surveyor ’87, the coveted ESP Surveyor shape is making a well-deserved return to the spotlight. A classic bolt-on design at 34” scale, the Surveyor ’87 has an alder body with thin U-shaped maple neck, as well as a Macassar ebony fingerboard with 21 extra-jumbo frets and dot inlays. Other features and components of the Surveyor ’87 include a matte black pickguard, Gotoh 201-B4 bridge, LTD vintage tuners, and a Seymour Duncan Vintage P/Vintage Jazz pickup set with volume, balance, and tone controls.
I have had my Surveyor '87 in Dark Purple Metallic for about two and a half years It is a very nice bass guitar. It sounds great and plays well. It looks better in person than in pictures. Photography doesn't do true justice to the rich purple color. With the P pickup soloed, it doesn't sound like my Fender Precision, it has its own very nice voice, probably due to the ebony fretboard and more pots than a Fender Precision. If I want true P-Bass tone, I'll play my Fender Precision. The Seymour Duncan vintage pickups in this bass deliver a nice, clear, authoritative tone. The hardware is nice, and the tuners function well. I ordered this bass online, so when I received it, it was a little heavier than I expected, but not too terrible. I have heavier bass guitars.
Overall, I am very pleased with the Surveyor'87. My only complaint is that there is not enough room for lowering the pickups. The E and A side P-pickup needs to be lowered, as it is louder than the D-G side. Raising the D-G side will make an unpleasant, unwanted distortion.
Too bad they discontinued this model and color.
