'Dynasty member' Chowchan to perform National Anthem for Samsung home opener

The 'dynasty members' opened the game.

The Samsung Lions played their home opener against the SSG Landers of the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu on Sept. 29. As the game was so meaningful, the opening pitch was given to a special person. Chow Chan.

Chau-chan has made a name for himself as one of the league's top left-handed starters during his career. He was drafted by Samsung in the seventh pick of the 2006 second round. He remained on the mound for 11 seasons until 2016, most notably during Samsung's dynasty from 2011 to 2014, when they won four consecutive pennants.

Chowchan then joined the LG Twins in free agency in 2017. He underwent surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow after the 2018 season. In 2020, he suffered a shoulder injury, which he rehabilitated and returned to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (held in 2021), but the pain returned. In 2021, she traveled to the United States and underwent shoulder surgery. He didn't play a single game for the first team in 2022 and was released by LG after the 2022 season.

Chau-chan signed with the Lotte Giants for an annual salary of 50 million won. After failing to return to the first team, he decided to retire last year. In 16 seasons in the KBO, he has a record of 457 games, 1668⅔ innings, 112 wins, 79 losses, 32 holds, one save, and a 4.51 ERA.

Samsung said, "Chau-chan is a pitcher who was one of the pillars of the club's dynasty. We chose him to be the opening pitcher to mark this season as a year of rebuilding the franchise," said Samsung.

The retired baseball player turned commentator stood on the mound at Lions Park for the first time in 29 years. His former teammate Oh Seung-hwan walked to the mound holding the hand of Cha's daughter, Cha Min-seo, with a big smile on his face. After a brief but passionate hug, he watched the pitch. Chow Chan started the game with a powerful pitch. The fans erupted in applause.

After the pitch, Chauchan reminisced about his time at Lions Park. "I remember the first day I pitched at Lions Park the most. I also remember my last pitch of the year," he said with a smile, adding, "I think today (the 29th) will also be one of my most memorable moments."

Chau-chan made his first start on April 1, 2016, against the Doosan Bears in the regular season opener at Lions Park. He pitched six innings and allowed four runs (three earned). His last game that year was on October 5 against the Daegu KIA Tigers.

"Although a lot of players from the dynasty were missing, (Oh) Seung-hwan is still active and most of the other players are coaches," Chow-chan said. "Even though I left the team for a while, I felt familiar with the Samsung team 카지노사이트 itself. We didn't talk about anything in particular, but just exchanged a few words of greeting."

We asked him to say a few words to the Samsung juniors. "Having textbook players like Oh Seung-hwan and Kang Min-ho on the team will be a big help," said Chow Chan. I believe that if they follow their seniors, they will grow into good players. If the players develop further, the new structure will work well."

"I know Lee Seung-hyun and Lee Seung-min personally. I think he needs a little time, but I think he will show good things if he approaches it with confidence," he encouraged. Lee started the season in the second-team Futures League after competing for five roster spots. Seung-min Lee has been in the rotation for five starts.

"I expected to be nervous, but now that I've pitched (the home opener), I think I'll be better," Chow Chan said, adding, "I'll prepare well to do a good job not only for the Samsung game but for the game in general."

Chau-chan is also planning to train in the United States. She plans to make a great second life.
