So-yeon Ryu won two gold medals in the individual and team events at the 2006 Doha Asian Games and made her debut on the KLPGA tour two years later. Playing as an invited player, she reached the top of the 2011 U.S. Women's Open and debuted on the LPGA Tour the following year. She was at her peak, winning the LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year Award in 2012 and the LPGA Tour Player of the Year Award in 2017.
