Clear plastic film over Snakebyte’s Pickups

    Clear plastic film over Snakebyte’s Pickups



    I recently received my brand new LTD Snakebyte, in White color.  I’ve noticed a thin, clear plastic film wrapped over both pick ups.  Do I need to take these off?  If so, I cannot easily take off the plastic because the plastic ends extend into the body of the EMG pick ups and will not easily pull out.  It feels like I’m going to pull up the EMGs as well!  I’ve attached a picture for further reference.  This one was made in Indonesia, December 2019.

    It’s just a plastic film to protect it from fingerprints or scratches, especially during shipping. You are safe to remove it, it will look better too.

      Hello Gerald,

      As Dirk mentioned above, this is a protective plastic put on the pickups during shipping.  This can be removed without affecting the pickup.  We suggest doing this during your next string change or having a technician take it off during a setup, as the pickups may need to be removed to peel the plastic (EMG really likes to keep those pickups shiny!).

        Thanks for your replies guys!  I managed to get the plastic off both pickups myself.  Needless to say, it was a pain-in-the-you-know-what!  BTW, can you guys tell me what is the best pickup-to-string height for Heavy metal type music?  I had to remove a lot of stuff to get the plastic covering off of the pickups and thus I had to nearly remove the pickups themselves!

          EMG suggests that their pickups are set as close to the strings as possible with the last (22nd) fret engaged.  You can lower them as needed from here to match your preferences and play style.  For reference, we measure passive bridge pickups at 2.5mm on the bass side and 1.5mm on the treble side.
