ESP LTD Snakebyte neck stress crack

    I just purchased a used ltd Snakebyte from Guitarcenter. It had a what looks to a crack at the neck joint on the bass side. They said it was a finish check. i took it to the Guitarcenter near me and the tech told me is was a stress crack. I have been giving two different answers.  I still have 30 days till return it.  I really like the guitar but the crack makes me nervous.  I have attached a picture.  Any advice is appreciated.  Thanks.
