Hi guys, I've noticed that kirk removes the string retainer bars on all of his guitars. Does anyone know what removing this does or what it changes on a guitar already equipped with one?
Thanks guys, I have never noticed that before on the low E and A strings. Cheers.

It makes the process of changing strings quicker. The theory (I have no idea if it actually works) behind the retainer bar is to help lock the strings by pulling them down as they pass the nut and to reduce the need for a string retainer (like Fenders often have.) You'll notice some of Kirk's guitars actually do have string retainers for the low E and A strings. I've only noticed them on the all black KH-2 style guitars, though.
