Peavey JSX with 6L6GC tubes? How does it sound...??

I'm thinking of to change the EL34's to 6L6GC poweramp tubes. Does anybody know (?) how it will sound with 6L6GC's instead of EL34's? I've played on a 6505 with 6L6GC's and it was freaking amazing. Best metal sound ever! So, do you think it's worth spending your money on a 6505+ head or buy four new poweramp 6L6GC tubes and change them? I don't know what to do.... :confused::confused: I know that the 6L6GC's are more brutal than the EL34's.

Definitely worth doing if you are looking to go for more of a metal tone from that head. It's adds bottom end and perhaps a bit of gain. That being said, it doesn't have the dark tone to it that a 6505 has.

What are the differences between the JSX and the 5150?

cbbass123

5150 = Metal amp
JSX = Clean/rock/metal amp

5150 > JSX when metal is concerned

For current production 6L6s, those Winged C 6L6s can't be beat...
