Studio Monitors For Recording & Pod X3 & XT
As some of you may have heard my Pod X3 and BKP clip of Seek and Destroy was truly apalling i have decided that i need to play more, and to get a pair of good quality studio monitors. Im after a good flat responce to get the best tonally out of my Pod XT and my old XT as i sometimes switch back to it for some things. Im also looking for a pair of actives, no passives as i dont want a friggin poweramp to complecate things. Im looking for something arround £200 - £250ish, something where i could pretty much get a pair of good monitors. So far im looking at theese: 1.] Tapco S5 -£199.00 (pair) 2.] TANNOY REVEAL 5A - £219.00 (Pair) 3.] KRK SYSTEMS RP5 ROKIT POWERED MONITOR - £239.00 (pair) 4.] E-MU PM5 - £89 (Single) 5.] M-Audio BX5a Deluxe - £149 (pair) Any help would be gladly recived. Thanks in advance.

Tapco make ok stuff...

Pretty much any of those would be ok the tannoy's are probably decent...

You may wan't active or passive do some searching to find out which you would prefer...

the M-audio is the way to go if you want something that is cheap but gets the job done

if you can, pay up a bit more and get the BX8a, that and a sub is all you need until your willing to pay 3k+ on a system.

The Rokits without a hesitation mate, friends got them and he can't say enough about them - the mixes I've heard of his stuff are cracking. SOS magazine always gives their stuff awesome reviews as well.

and I forgot to say they're going to be the monitors I go for eventually :D

KRK seems to be the best so far, the thing is i have now noticed that when i get the im gonna have to re-posistion my Kenwood stereo speakers (Whitch im currently using for my Pod XT thru my Dennon Hi-Fi) so i can have one monitor next to my Pod X3 and the other where one of the existing Kenwood one is, but all that is is going out and getting a few feet of speaker wire.

And then im gonna have to get some footage of cable to connect the monitors up properly.

If it makes any diffrence, im also wanting to play Bass thru them at a later date also.

well your going to need a sub for that definitely if your going to be playing/recording/mixing bass

honestly if you pay at least 200 on a system, its going to be good, go after what looks good and fits your needs and wallet.

i have a friend/manager at a guitar center/recording engineer that has told me that he prefers the BX5's over the rokits, because the are a little bit more clear and they are cheaper. Thats my justification on them, and they are quite small so they fit anywhere.

Another vote for the Rokits, I'm starting to see them around alot and everyone I know who has them are LOVING them.

Don't forget Mike, most of the best mixes you've ever heard have been on NS-10's, and those definately are NOT good monitors :).

Thats one thing im not gonna be doing is spending arround £1K on a single speaker, just dont have the budget and the ability to justify buying them.

I want something thats like intermedate home studio standard, somthing that sounds good in that bracket in both price and standard.

Nothing flashy, but gets the job done.

That's all you need really most of those monitors should do the job...

Spending a lot of money outside of a studio with decent specialised materials would be stupid seeing as you only need a basic set of monitors would do you fine for mixing down stuff from the pod...

Just go for the ones you wan't the most...

As long as they replicate the sound good enough thats all you need...

Theres no point spending over 500 in a non sound proofed bedroom recording setup...
