7 string scale length
7 string scale length
Why is the general consensus that baritone scales are better for 7 strings?
Is it because it allows you to reach a decent amount of tension with thinner strings, reducing muddiness (with higher tension) and easing playability (thinner strings)?
And does this mean that a 25.5 scale 7 stringer with thicker strings to match the tension of a baritone 7 would sound just as clear?
I guess the question is, is muddiness reduced directly by scale length? or is it actually reduced by string tension.:|
Thanks a lot :D
Longer scale means it will hold up better. I have a 25.5" 7-string in G with a 70 guage for the low G. And it works, but that low G can wobble a little bit. If the scale were longer, it would be a lot tighter, not just in feel, but in terms of holding the note.
