Tuning with the metal ball in the tuner..

I just read this months "So What!?" - the Metallica fan club mag. Anyway, they asked Kirk's guitar tech his method of tuning, and he suggested looping the metal ball end through the tuner, then cutting the string short and stuffing that end into the FR bridge. Whaaa!? Would that damage the tuner? He said you don't need to wrap it around so much since the ball holds it in... first time I heard of doing it that way. Any thoughts?

Nah this is pretty normal, I did this for a while. Doesn't work with thicker strings on the low end, since they won't bend until a good bit above the ball.

Looks cool with D'adarrio colored balls, though!

Ohh, cool... how thick maybe? I'll try it out, I'm using 46-10s... seems like it would be faster, though

Why would it be any faster? You still have to clip the string.

It takes me some time to do the winding, looping it right, etc. That's usually what takes time for me.

You trim the strings when you're done.
