Bought this a week ago. It's my first electric guitar and I have to say it's beautiful in every way that matters. The double cutaway design looks absolutely stunning in person. The moment I saw it, I knew this would be the one. The feel, tone and just the overall quality of the guitar is much better than what I was expecting. I'm personally into metal and hard rock so I bought this keeping in mind the double humbuckers, it definitely paid off. As far as cons go, it's got a bit of a neck dive problem, which can be solved by either moving the strap clip or adding weights. You could also just sit down and play like I do. You're also going to have to up the gauge of the strings if you plan on playing in Drop tunings. That's about it. For a starter guitar, I couldn't possibly ask for anything more.

Thanks to the ESP Team, my first axe is a great one.

Thanks for sharing, glad you're enjoying it

I have a Viper 100FM. What would that be considered in today’s guitars? I know you ha e 10’s and 50’ etc....

I just recently became an ESP/LTD converter. I played Epiphone and Jackson guitars most of my career. I bought the 100 as a back up for a hardcore band I play in. Man was I surprised at the quality guitar I got at the lower end. I’d love a purple burst Viper 1000 but too many guitars (says my wife) as it is now.

thanks,

scott

I took a chance on the m-10 because it's almost a strat body copy.

I couldn't believe the quality when it arrived. The neck was perfect, and the frets seemed dressed.

To be honest it's better than my mim Strats.

Would have liked it to be a hard tail.

glad you like it, thanks for letting us know

What do I look for when buying locking tuners for this guitar? Also is there a good replacement nut as the one it comes with is a bit rough?

Carl N.

All aftermarket tuners are different so it might be best to have a local technician perform such a modification if you are unfamiliar with the process.  Depending on what aspect of your nut is rough this could be easily fixed without resorting to replacement.  A local technician should be able to assist you with that.  If you need further assistance you can reach our customer service department at customerservice@espguitars.com

Was the Viper 50 considered higher quality than the Viper 10? Which model is now equivalent or closest to the Viper 50?

Carl N.

Yes, as the model number goes up so will the quality.  Most comparable will be the 200 series models currently offered

Sharifah Zarith Rahmah Bt

Hey can anyone suggest me where i can fix my brokentoggle switch, I live in Malaysia, Johor, Thanks

Todd B. ESP

Hi Sharifah, This is something that any guitar repair person or repair shop can handle. Sometimes your switch is not broken. If it is intermittent, then sometimes spraying it with contact cleaner will fix the issue. But we recommend taking it to a repair person if possible. Check the dealer you purchased it from or the distributor in your country.

Here is a link to our distributor page: https://www.espguitars.com/locations?categories=intl-distributors

Sharifah Zarith Rahmah Bt

The toggle actually broken because of mishandle the item, i went to local shop in my area but they do not have the parts, but i would look into the link. thanks

Todd B. ESP

Hi Sharifah, Hope you get some help you need. As always it's best to contact the retailer you purchased the guitar from in case there were any issues with the delivery.

nuarharuha

Try google Promised Land Guitar Repair Center, area Taman Tun. They can do almost anything.

Todd B. ESP

Hi nuarharuha, thank you for that suggestion.

Gary M.

I have a question, why does my guitar have the model viper 10 on the headstock rather then on the fretboard?

Todd B. ESP

Hi Gary, our website photo needs to be updated. Last year we changed over all our fingerboards. Now the model name is on the truss rod cover, not the 12th fret block like in the past.

Gary M.

My wife bought me this guitar for Christmas, my first esp also my first brand new guitar, I love this guitar, feels great to play, I love the unfinished neck. I’ve been playing a Gibson explorer for the last 20 years or so the raw wood neck was a nice change.  I really want to see one of these in orange with black hardware, any chance of seeing something like outside of something custom?  But anyway, I love the guitar, keep up the good work!

Todd B. ESP

Hey Gary, Thanks so much for your comments and review. We're happy to hear that you like your new guitar! Thanks for your suggestions as well. We will always consider suggestions from our customers whenever we plan new models. Thanks for choosing ESP!

Sebastian C.

are the viper 1000 or 401 coming back?

Todd B. ESP

Hey Sebastian, We still have a couple Viper-400 around. No Viper-1000 currently but we'll bring them back if we have enough interest.

Michael M.

I believe they're strong with 10 gauge strings when they leave the factory. But if I were you, if you can get the Viper 10 series that has the model number on the 12th fret inlay I think that be a nice guitar. However, if you get one of the other models that have an unfinished Maple neck and just. Inlays, I would send it back refund and go somewhere else or just try to get its better version the Viper 50. My ex had a Viper 50 and it is a phenomenal guitar. I love that thing. It was real sturdy. It was what all of ESP guitars should be like. I thought this one I got was going to be like it but it wasn't. I bought a Viper 10 series from the factory through zZounds com. I bought it about 5 or 6 months ago. It started falling apart about 4 months ago. and when I say falling apart oh, I mean I started to notice a small gap between the neck and the body. I started to look at the screws and noticed they were angled slightly. And to make matters worse, when I went to tighten it, it was already stripped one of them was. now that's only problem number one. Problem number two I start noticing that my relief and my action fluctuated. Now I don't mean the small miniscule fluctuations that are usually they're from the heat and cold. I mean I can pretty much watch my guitar neck go forward and backward. So come to find out, my truss rod isn't working. I never replaced it or anything but got some advice and it kind of work but it still fluctuates, just not as bad anymore. to accompany this truss rod issue, on the back of the neck very very small you can see these marks One towards the headstock , one between the headstock and the body , and then one final one down closer to the body. And the marks are on the inside of it. Not be outside. and then I look down to the bridge and noticed that my bridge post inserts are sinking downward into the body it was very very slight at first, but gradually got worse. My action got lower and lower. Now, i take real good care of my instruments. So i was pretty upset. Tried to cash in the warranty, but i read that u can't if you've made any modifications to it. All i did was put a graphite tusq nut on it. I mean, i still love ESP's guitarz. They r wonderfully awesome guitars. But at this point, i feel like I've been cheated and ripped off. If they would've just replaced the issues or repaired them or something, i would've been just fine. But nope, i haven't heard anything from them. Anyways, i just thought u should know before u buy. If its got the finish on the neck it should be just fine.

Todd B. ESP

Hey Michael,  Sorry to hear about all the problems you experienced. Did you already contact our ESP Customer Service team about this issue? We stand behind our products so if they ever fail due to construction issues like you pointed out, we would take care of those problems for you. I agree with you that the old 50 series were great guitars. They were in our product line for many many years (I forget how many but probably over 15 years)! We've consolidated our product line so you'll find our more basic entry level guitars in the 10 series and you'll find models similar to our old 50 series in our 200 series product line now. Please reach out to our customer service team at their email to see if they can assist you with your guitar. Here is their email: customerservice@espguitars.com
