Nina B.

Hello, what is the dimensions of EC-256FM or where can I find info about it?

Carl N.

Hey Nina, about 1077mm by 335mm  Hope this helps!

How drastic (or subtle) of a difference would you say there is between the stock LH-150 humbuckers compared to the Duncan JB/59 pickups that are used on some of other models?

Carl N.

Hey Andy, depends how sharp your ears are!

To be fair, they are completely different pickups.  The LH-150 will be made with a ceramic magnet with an output range around 11kΩ in the neck and 13kΩ in the bridge.  Those Duncans you mentioned use an AlNiCo based magnet and have an output range of 7.6kΩ in the neck and 16.6kΩ  in the bridge.   Different magnets, different metal mass, and different outputs will equal different tonal characteristics .  Check out our demo videos of instruments using the LH-150 pickups and you can compare them to audio samples from Duncan's site.  Otherwise if you need a hands on feel for it you can visit your local ESP dealer, I am sure they'll have at least one instrument with LH-150s and one with that Duncan setup you can try.

Can you clear up something for me about my EC-256FM?  Is the body all mahogany with just a thin veneer of flame maple?  I mean is the mahogany body caved to the top shape and then the flamed maple veneer glued on the carved mahogany?  OR is there a plain maple cap glued to a flat mahogany body, the maple top carved and then a flamed veneer glued on top of the plain maple?   OR something entirely different?

I love the guitar - just find it ambiguous as some descriptions say "mahogany body with maple top" and some say "flame maple veneer" but it's never clear if there is a carved maple top under the veneer or if the mahogany is carved.

Carl N.

Hey Andy, these instruments will feature a maple veneer on the carved mahogany body.  Hope this helps!

I bought my my EC-256 used on a closeout a couple years back when my music store was moving to a larger location.   Was planning on a guitar from shall we say the value brand of the competitor most known for the single cut solid body.  From the moment I picked it up, it felt like it was almost crafted for my hands.  The fit and finish are far higher than what I was accustomed to in this price range.  Buying my second this weekend as the GC exclusive Cherry Sunburst is on sale for super cheap.

I have to say its been interesting the last couple hours checking out the differences between my trusty old '09 256AVB and the newly arrived '18  FM Cherry Sunburst.  I like the change to the tulip-style tuner buttons over the old kidneys both in form and function.  Same with the  speed knobs over the top hat knobs.  Those are both changes I will be making to my '09.  The only change I didn't care for was moving the EC-256 from being part of the 12th fret inlay to the truss rod cover.  I thought it was kind of cool as it was.  There's a bit different feel between the satin and gloss necks, but yet very familiar at the same time.  The finish on the '18 is perfect and I've been looking for flaws.  The veneer top has some 3Dness to it.  You'd be forgiven for thinking this is a far more expensive instrument than it is.  I paid $299 both times.  Now I just need to get my hands on a 256 Gold Top to complete the collection.

Hey Ben, Thanks for pointing out all those details. Glad to hear about the changes you like as well as the ones you don't like. Hope you can finish your collection!

I bought 256FM LD as my first guitar after very-very long pause. I was thinking about Epiphone LP or Yamaha, but I'm here! Sure, this is the right choice.
