M-1008 MULTI-SCALE
M-1008 MULTI-SCALE
SEE THRU BLACK SATIN
The LTD M-1007MS and M-1008MS are multi-scale guitars with the uncompromising playability and sonic power for which ESP is known worldwide. Multi-scale guitars make use of an angled fret arrangement to offer different scale lengths for the various strings of the guitar, allowing for optimal string tension, and has also been stated by many players to offer an ergonomic improvement for the fretting hand. Offering 7-string and 8-string arrangements respectively, the M-1007MS and M-1008MS have varying scale lengths of 27” - 25.5”. They are bolt-on designs with flamed maple tops over a lightweight mahogany back. Both models offer a five-piece neck made of maple and exotic purple heart wood, with a Macassar ebony fingerboard that includes offset abalone dot inlays. Top-tier components on the new M-1007MS and M-1008MS include a set of Seymour Duncan Nazgul and Sentient pickups that were custom-made for ESP with a special angled design and pole spacing optimized for the multi-scale design. A push-pull control on the tone knob allows for coil splitting, providing a wealth of flexible tones. Other components include a Hipshot multi-scale bridge and ESP locking tuners. Available in See Thru Black Satin finish.
I had this axe for 2 years until giving it up to aid my education. Every day that has gone by, I deeply miss this thing. My take on it; It played so well, felt like a high class player wielding it. Has an amazing neck profile. Slim and contours with your palm, it's like holding your dream girl's hand. The fanned frets was an icing on the cake for comfort. Especially if you got medium to big hands and piano fingers. The stock pickup package is a good. Even though it's meant to rip hard and heavy with the Nazgul bridge. Sentient does a fine job in providing satisfactory of cleans. Definitely both of the pickups became a standard for me. The hipshot bridge and locking tuners are a must, ESP LTD knows that and they deliver it with this axe. Overall quality control meets the expectations that ESP is known for. This guitar could be easily marked up to $2000 if they wanted to. When I get time to get back into playing, I'm definitely buying this one again. 9.5/10, don't sleep on this one if you're looking for an 8 banger that delivers more than the budget.
It should be noted that I absolutely love ESP and have been a loyal customer for over 20 years but this guitar came with the worst QC I have ever seen from them. It came with loose tuning pegs, the nut was improperly cut, truss rod was off, string height was uneven, pickup height was off, and saddles in the bridge were off. I understand typically I may have to adjust things to my preferences but this was more like the guitar was assembled, skipped set up all together, and went straight in the box for shipping. It was that bad. I’m used to the guitar being great out of the box but this was like playing an Ibanez at guitar center. No offense to Ibanez. Once I got these issues corrected, the guitar was phenomenal.
- Just bought one of the M-1008's and I absolutely love it, but I'm having an issue with intonation on the low B and F#. I'm not a fan of 10-72 gauge strings and plan to go with a 9 gauge set. You guys know anyone around the Knoxville Tennessee area that I can trust to effectively set this up or perhaps send me some documents on properly adjusting the intonation on this beast?
