Hope this doesn’t get to long, so TLDR: Excellent guitar!
I’ll start with the cons, (theres only one) the nut, on my guitar the high E string did not sit in the groove, it just clipped the corner. I don’t understand why a guitar of this quality doesn’t come with a better nut. There is not a guitar player alive that wouldn’t spend an extra 15 bucks for a quality nut. I purchased mine from an authorized online dealer so it never saw a music store, so it needed a setup as would any guitar that made that journey. I had my local luthier install a graphtec nut and give it a setup, he does excellent work and he is also a guitar tech for pro musicians. WOW! I haven’t put this guitar down, what an amazing instrument. Starting at the top, the locking tuners are just fantastic, so smooth and easy to tune, and this guitar stays in tune as well. The fretwork is flawless and this neck is a joy to play on I’m loving it. This guitar sustains forever and sounds amazing. I’m loving the ss jumbo frets, the action is perfect all throughout the fretboard. The pickups sound so good, great choice. You can get beautiful clean tones as well as chugging with the dirtiest of metal tones, very versatile guitar. I love the hipshot bridge, very comfortable, makes palm muting so effortless. The electronics are great as well, the pots are smooth as silk. On my guitar the volume knob has a little more tension on it than the tone, not sure if this was by design but I love it. It turns so smoothly and stays where you put it. This guitar looks amazing as well, pictures don’t do it justice, it’s beautiful. So in closing, this is an excellent guitar, especially at this price point, you definitely won’t regret buying this one it’s a keeper. I also purchased the hard shell case and it’s a nice one. Very high quality, easily the nicest case I have. Good job LTD, you made a fine instrument I’m extremely pleased with my purchase, in future models it would be nice to see graphtec nuts.

P.S. I’ve been playing this guitar for over a month now before writing this review.

I purchased this guitar several months ago, and it has far exceeded my expectations.  I own another H-1001 model from several years ago, but was tempted by this one because of the Pegasus/Sentient set, as well as the hardtail bridge and ebony fretboard.

The pickups quickly became my new favorite set.  I play through modelers, and they're what I consider a perfect "blank canvas" for tones that can really be shaped to excel at any genre.  They're very warm, have a balanced EQ, and have some of the best tightness and clarity of any pickup I've played.  I would say they shine the most in progressive metal and rock, however.  They're also moderate output, so they clean up very well.

As for the guitar itself, of course it came in flawless condition.  The color in person is very close to the image above, but there's a little less contrast.  The black on the body isn't as intense, and when holding it in the light it almost feels as if there's a very slight hint of dark green mixed in, giving the whole body kind of a dragon scale vibe.  It's really cool.

Anyways, nothing bad to say about this guitar, it's perfect, and I can say with confidence that it's what solidified ESP as my go-to for guitars.

I just purchased this guitar, I can't wait to arrive! Does anyone know what material is used for the frets? And for the nut? Thank you!

Is there any horizon series guitars with matte necks at all?

Carl N.

Hey Ethan, all of the bolt on Horizon models will have a natural satin neck as will the Horizons with satin finishes.
