Should I be using a passive or active DI box for this bass when recording?

Carl N.

Use whatever you have but the electronics of this bass are active

Josh A.

So its a passive bass with active electronics or is it an active bass with passive pick ups?

Amaury R.

Hello. I buyed this bass last Week and i would set my truss road. I Believe the nut is in inch but I only have keys in mm. What's the size of the nut please?

Thanks.

Carl N.

Hey Amaury, this will be 4mm, though I would recommend having a professional handle this adjustment for you if you are unfamiliar with working on your own instruments.

Amaury R.

No, it's ok, it was the key who's ruined. And what's the good strings's high on
twelfth fret please?

It's a fretless!

Carl N.

Hey Amaury, we have all of our basic setup specs listed out in our owner's manual, though each player's preferences differ so you may like to have your strings higher or lower than what comes from the factory.

Ive had this bass for just over 10 years now and I have not regretted 1 minute of it! Ive been thinking of changing the pickups from passive to active but I was curious about the pickup height. Since the pickups are not as exposed as other types, can they be set higher than the factory setting?

Todd B. ESP

Hi Josh, Glad to hear that you've had 10 great years with this bass! Yes you can put any type of pickup in there. You can add or remove a sponge / foam material under the pickups to give it cushion. Most pickups will be relatively same height, the key is you need to get one that is made to fit the same size soapbar route (It is modeled after an EMG 40 size).

Josh A.

Thanks Todd! What would the major difference be between active and passive pickups?

Carl N.

Hey Josh, the biggest difference between the two would be output.  Active pickups will have a higher output signal whereas passive pickups will have a lower output signal that relies more on your amp to be driven.  This B-5 has the best of both, passive pickups with an active EQ.

Just got this bass today by mail. I gotta say that the quality of manufacturing and construction is immaculate. No color variation, it looks identical to the picture up here. Feels and plays great. If I had to give it a con would be that balance of the bass drops on the neck side (probably because body isn't that heavy?). Anyway not really a con for me and I am happy with my purchase. Thanks ESP!

Hey Miguel, We're so glad to hear you like your new bass guitar! Thanks for posting your review here and sharing your feedback with us. We really appreciate that and we also thank you for giving us a chance.

Is this model still available? I've checked all dealers in my area, and all say it is no longer available. Can I still order directly from you?

Todd B. ESP

Hi Benjamin, Yes this model is available. It used to be made with ebony body top but was switched to mahogany body due to wood availability issues. Probably the dealers you have been talking with may not be aware of the update or may be referring to the older ebony version. You can purchase direct from us if you live inside the US, otherwise if you live outside of the US you will need to contact your nearest distributor.
