Updated for 2018 with a killer new Green Sparkle finish, the LTD SCT-607B is an extraordinary guitar designed by innovative player Stephen Carpenter of Deftones. The SCT-607B starts with a rather traditional shape, but then takes an abrupt turn into one of the most powerful guitars available for contemporary music styles. It's a seven-string guitar, with neck-thru-body construction at 27" baritone scale. That means this instrument can handle extremely low tunings, while still maintaining the string tension needed for expressive playing and excellent tones. It offers a comfortable alder body and a three-piece maple neck, with an unadorned ebony fingerboard. Components on the LTD SCT-607B include a TonePros locking TOM bridge with string-thru-body design for excellent sustain, and a pair of versatile Fishman Fluence® SRC Signature active pickups. Each pickup has multiple voicings; use the push-pull control on the volume knob to select the one you want. On the middle alnico pickup, push down for “Modern Active” tone or pull up for “Modern Passive Attack”. On the bridge ceramic pickup, push down for “Modern Passive Attack” tone or pull up for “Modern Active” voicing. This model utilizes a standard 9V battery.

I've owned this guitar for about a month, so I figured it was time I post a review.

I've owned countless guitars, but this is the first signature model. I originally had money down on the white E2 baritone tele, but the eta kept changing. Eventually I was told it would be over a year's wait so I went with this.

Pros: As with all ESPs/LTDs, it's built well. The finish is beautiful. It holds tuning well. The neck is nice and chunky for those of you that prefer that. I'm used to Les Paul's so I was pleasantly surprised.

Cons. The pickups. I just don't see the appeal of Fishman's. They are very mid heavy and present. I guess they would sound good, but even tuned down to B flat it's still very bright and high fi. Kind removes the lumbering quality you get from playing in lower tunings. I still dig an EMG 81. It's tight and focused but retains certainly qualities I like. But, I digress.

The setup. Every ESP or LTD I've owned has been playable out of the box. This one was setup like all the others. Here's the problem. This is a baritone 7 string, with an increased scale length,  it requires lighter gauge strings if you're playing in standard. That or tune it down slightly to compensate. Because of this it was extremely stiff and difficult to play. I've since tuned it down a half step and it's better.

Are these still being made? Or are these just 2018 stock being sold still?

Wondering if the "molded" nut means plastic. And whether this may be getting an update or re-release this year. Otherwise, if it's no longer going to be sold (like the old satin black) I'll have to pick up!

I just bought one of these. Great guitar. Sounds amazing! Heavy AF too. Anyway, can I lower the height of the middle pickup to make it less likely to hit with a pick? Also, I ordered some new strings for it that have a .070 for the 7th string, will there be a problem with that gauge? Thanks!

Does this baritone come set up from the factory in the tunning that Stephen uses for his 7 strings on the self-titled and Saturday Night Wrist records?: G# C# F# B E G# C# or does the guitar come set up from the factory in B E A D G B E ?

-Thanks

Carl N.

We do not setup our instruments based on tunings for particular albums, this will come in standard tuning. You can view our string gauges and tunings on our FAQ section

I just ordered SCT607-B from LTD, in description specs,  neck radius is 350mm and for ESP version is 305. Is this correct or typo?.   I’m also curious if there is any difference in the electronics or type of pots/components since the pups appear to be the same?   Thanks, can’t wait to play it

Carl N.

Most ESP instruments will feature a 305mm radius whereas LTD models, even of the same variety, will have a 350mm radius.  The functions of the electronics will be the same between both models.
