Whats the origin of this guitar?

Todd B. ESP

Hello Atik,

We are currently manufacturing this model in both Korea and Indonesia. However, we constantly monitor production standards at our various factories in Asia where we produce LTD models. Should we determine that a certain facility is capable of manufacturing an instrument to ESP's required standard or better, we may decide to shift production, or in some cases share production of a model, wherever that factory may be located. The guitar should be of excellent quality regardless of where it's made, and it will have passed our own quality assurance testing.

I have the 2017 version of this guitar and I would like to know what material the fretboard is made of because here it says macassar ebony but on the seller that i bought it from's website it says rosewood.

Todd B. ESP

Hi Tommy, In 2017 this model did come with rosewood, so that's probably what you have. Last year we changed to ebony.

Abdulla R.

Hello,

I'm new to ESP community.

I would like to ask:

  1. Does this guitar has satin finished neck or gloss finished neck?
  2. what is the difference between the 1000 series and 400 series, because the specs look the same to me.
  3. Pau Ferro wood is quite new to me, how is it compared to rosewood in term of feeling and tone? and will it need extra care like ebony?

just a small observation, in the description, it says this guitar series has Macassar ebony fretboard.

Thank you so much.

Todd B. ESP

Hi Abdulla, here are some answers to your questions.

1. Back of neck is gloss like the body.

2. The main differences are:

M-1001 - set thru construction, EMG Metalworks pickups, Floyd Rose 1000Special Edition Bridge w/ stainless screws, figured top.

M-400 - bolt on construction, EMG standard pickups, Floyd Rose Special Bridge, no figured top.

3. Pau Ferro is a great alternative to rosewood, similar sound and characteristics, tends to be a little lighter in color. Doesn't need any special care like ebony.

Thanks for pointing out the description, we'll fix that.

Thank you so much for the answer Todd.

About the nut, im looking forward to put on strings with .012 to .054 gauge, do you think the nut can take that gauge or do I need to do some filling?

Todd B. ESP

Hi Abdulla, The FR parts are made to fit a wide range of strings, so it should be fine. I recommend putting your new strings on and setup your guitar. If the string rings out clearly then it is ok. Sometimes the plating may cause some unwanted buzz or ringing which can be fixed by lightly filing and removing the plating inside the nut.

Thank you Todd,

im very close to my decision of choice between m-1001 and m-400. now what is left is to go to music store and try both.

Appreciate your responses to my questions. Big help.

Todd B. ESP

Hi Abdulla, OK glad I could help. Good luck!

Brett N.

I've had my eye on this one for a long time now, and I actually ordered it a few weeks ago but had to recall my order because of a financial oversight, however, I'm nearly ready to bring it home for good this time .

One question about the pickups though: why were EMGs the best production choice for the guitar, and what would the closest equivalent to the 81s be for companies like DiMarzio, Seymour Duncan, and Fishman?  I feel like I'd be ready to swap as soon as I brought it home for something better.  I'm new to the pickup game, too

Todd B. ESP

Hi Brett, We've used EMG 81's for quite a while and they've been a popular choice especially for our M-style and Eclipse styles. The EMG's offer high gain with low noise and they are active pickups with a built in internal preamp. You won't get close to this sound from Duncan or Dimarzio pickups, but they certainly make lots of great pickups which you might want to try. Of the pickups you listed the Fishman Modern humbuckers would be the closest to the Active EMG 81's but they will have a slightly different sound and will offer you 2 distinct voicings to switch between.

What kind of Floyd Rose is featured on this model?

Todd B. ESP

Hi Moses P, we use the 1000 series Floyd Rose. This is the production bridge with same spec as Original FR, but made in Korea at this time. It is a great quality bridge. Currently we use the upgraded version with stainless screws for bridge and nut.
