I have been thinking of getting an effects processor lately. For recording and dicking around without and amp, one of these seems great. But I would also like to run it with my amp, maybe in the effects loop. Is it possible to turn off the amp and cabinet modling and just use the effects? Also, can you run one of these in the effects loop? I am a total noob when it comes to this.

As above, Yes for amp and cab sims; you can turn them off, and you can run the effects in the loop.
You have came at the right time to a Pod, the Pod XT is the industry standard at the moment, but; and heres the but, they have just realeased the Pod X3, whitch has newer processors and algorythms and more effects and such, im gonna be upgrading my Pod XT for a Pod X3 on Saturday me thinks!!!
