nut material

I need to replace the nut in one of my guitars. Its a pretty bright guitar for the most part so I am wondering if there is a really sturdy material that wont brighten the guitar anymore than it already is. Its got the standard nut that came on the guitar when it was purchased.

One of the Tusq or Graphtech nuts would be fine I havent found any i;ve used to brighten the guitar.

There is also Brass which you could check out...

Bone is one of the most common materials on higher end guitars, not sure if it will add brightness, pretty much any decent replacement will sound a lot better than the stock plastic nut..

I doubt you would dislike the tusq/graphtech route, is there nothing else you can do to make the guitar less bright, change a capcitor add a tone control etc?

speaking of nuts....
anyone ever use antler?
i always find a couple of sheds in my yard ever year...

It's bone so would work in theory and they are pretty hard too...

you could make blanks and sell them on ebay for $30 as boutique tone nuts...

I wouldnt be suprised if they use antler for bone nuts in manufacture as they shed/regrow...

Or its what happens to the missing dogs/cats bones when they go near korean restraunts...
