New painting Project EC-400 Yes... Pics.
Hey guys, it's been a while since I painted/posted my last project on here, that V-350. Well, I picked up an EC-400 with a Gibson 500T and 496R pickups and have began documenting the work... Heres the last project: http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d62/callmewhatyouwill/MyCarSmallerpic.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d62/callmewhatyouwill/gtr2car-1.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d62/callmewhatyouwill/DSC00351.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d62/callmewhatyouwill/DSC00348.jpg Heres what I have started so far on the new project, I am painting this one themed after my brothers 1971 Chevelle SS. It is silver with black stripes. The blue chevelle is my fathers, which was the one I based the SS 396 off of, as the silver one has a 454 in it, but the 396 emblem was extra so I'm putting it to good use. http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d62/callmewhatyouwill/Cars015.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d62/callmewhatyouwill/ec400-0.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d62/callmewhatyouwill/ec400-1.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d62/callmewhatyouwill/ec400-2.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d62/callmewhatyouwill/ec400-3.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d62/callmewhatyouwill/ec-400-4.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d62/callmewhatyouwill/ec-400-5.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d62/callmewhatyouwill/ec-400-6.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d62/callmewhatyouwill/ec-400-7.jpg This is the end of day 1, I got the guitar in the mail some hours before doing this, it does play wonderfully but the pickups are wired pretty sloppy, had to turn all three knobs down just to control the bridges volume. So it shall have new pots as well. I still have some more sanding to do before I spray the primer. I am changing the hardware to chrome as well. And yes, I am changing the headstock logo to read ESP with a custom, as I don't plan on selling this guitar nor do I care if its a fake. Its just more fun to do the work myself. Just one question if anyone knows, how do you remove the bridge posts? I think there is a special tool required to do this but for the sake of getting stuff done, I just taped them up. Anyway, just wanted to share my project.

Okay, I decided to make the neck a natural finish after all... Here goes nothing.
Sanding on the neck.

What I did, but I wouldn't recommend to everybody, was to take a soldering iron (mines like 30w) and just let it sit inside post for a few minutes. Then I removed the iron and placed it to the side and then quickly screwed in the pole piece thingys and gripped them with plyers (always good idea to wrap the post with some masking tape or something) and just pulled up with a gradual pressure increasing slightly with a slight wiggle motion. It should not require too much pulling strength so if it's not bulging you'll need to reapply the soldering iron for a little bit longer.

Again, I wouldn't recommend it to everybody and I'm sure there's an alternative way to do it without the special tool, but considering I was doing it with a project guitar, I wasn't too afraid of messing anything up too badly. Just use some caution.

Also, the neck looks really good...The final product should be great; can't wait to see more pics!

That neck looks gorgeous. And, I don't use that word often so that must mean something. lol

After (if) you break the glue with heat, this is the best method for bushing removal:

:lol Wow, I'm famous!

I didn't even need to warm the bushings, I just screwed them out.

Nice job with the painting. That should kick ass when it's finished!

Wow, thanks a lot for the video, and extra thanks to Pushead, had them suckers out in less than 3 minutes. No glue on this model either.

Stain is just about set, I gave it another coat but figured it wasn't pic update worthy. Probably spraying the base coat of silver tonight. :)

Crimson King FTW!

I've always wanted to paint a guitar. I'm too scared to fuck it up though:lol

So I decided to go with a Green and Black stripe approach, such as seen on 1969 Camaros. It does not photo very well however, due to the lack of clear coat, but it is much greener than this pic shows, just gotta wait till I finish, I'm also doing 1/4 inch stripes around the big stripe. Added chrome rings and pup covers, just waiting on more parts and decals to come in before I can put on the clear coat. I figure some people will hate how it looks, but I dig the hot rod look.
