Pots for EMG pickup
Pots for EMG pickup
Hi all,
I have an E-II M-II CTM, which has EMG 81-85 with volume and tone knob.
Just recently the volume pots strat emiting crackling sound whenever I turn up or down the volume knob. I guess it's time to change the pots. I search EMG web for pots and I'm planning to get this for volume
http://www.emgpickups.com/accessories/parts/25k-pots/25k-volume.html
and this for tone
http://www.emgpickups.com/accessories/parts/25k-pots/25k-tone.html
1. Do I choose the correct pots ??
2. Which pot should I choose ?? Split or solid with long or short shaft.
3. Do I have to use different pots for volume and tone ??
4. Do I have to buy another things from EMG, eg:cables, to do this repair ?
Thank you for your answer.
I agree with Guiguitarz, you can probably spray a bit of contact cleaner and exercise the pots (volume up and down a bunch of times) and solve the problem.
But if you've decided that replacement is what you want to do, let's find you what you'd need. First question: are the wires soldered onto the pots, or do they use a quick-connect attachment? I suspect they're soldered on. If so, this is what you need:

If you're not from the US, this list might give you a better idea of the codes to use with EMG, check out this site:

If you need to order by the code, you'd want CS-VT-SPL (Volume Tone - Split Shaft)

Hey Johny,
These solderless potentiometers will not be compatible with the currently installed electronics, as the entire system is not solderless. You may use the same value, split shaft, 25k mini pots for both the tone and volume, and we suggest re-using the capacitor from the currently installed tone. Here is a link to a suggested replacement potentiometer.

Here's your answer :
Just spray some inside your pot from the cavity, make it rotate entirely 10 times, and you're ready for 2 years again. It's like $15 the can.
