Preamp Tubes

I am looking into replacing the preamp tubes in my 6505. Now I just did the Power Tubes and they needed to be biased but what do you have to do for Preamp tubes? Also, any suggestions on what kind?

try a Tung-sol in V-1(the far right one). try a 12AT7in V-4(far left). and JJs in the other 3 spots. that works great for me in my 5150 block letter

Okay.
I forgot to mention it was a 6505+/5150II.
I'm unsure as to whether that changes anything.

Also, are they just directly swappable?
Like just pull them out and stick new ones in and away you go?

Deadpulse

yes, just pop them in and start playing

Yes, the bias adjustment has "minimal adjustment settings so you don't get yourself into too much trouble" playing with it by ear instead of using a multimeter...

You CAN adjust the bias some but IF it was ever adjusted properly(using the multimeter) before & then left there, AND you are using the same type/brand tubes that was in it before, then you are pretty much ready to go-pop in the new tubes & go.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Like I said only 'minimal adjustment' is possible with the bias knob.
peace
