18v on EMG X-Series

18v on EMG X-Series
Does anyone have much experience with the EMG X-Series? If so, is it worth wiring them for 18v or does the increased headroom of the X-Series make it completely unnecessary?

I think they made the x series to sound like normal emgs running at 18v.

I think so too, but I do wonder what the X series might do at 18v. It might make it to harsh or brittle sounding. I guess I can always give it a shot and see what happens, then un-do it if it sucks.

go for it

Would probably sound fizzy.

So much headroom will probably make your head explode.

I have the 18x in my Explorer now. I did not try it with the 18v mod, it didn't sound like it needed it at all. The X-Series, in my opinion, blow away the standard EMGs. I have an 81x and a 60x in there right now, and I feel like I get the same general tone that I like from the EMGs, but the muddiness is gone. Notes seem to ring clearer and just sound all around better. I highly recommend giving the X-Series a shot.

Necrobump.

Anybody try the 18v on EMGx yet?
I know the EMGx preamp doesn't clip and they are made to have the headroom of the normal EMGs with the 18v mod.....was just wondering if anybody has actually tried it themselves?
