Info about this KH-2

I'm considering buying a bolt-on KH-2 from 1998, serial number on the back says K-21927

Is this KH-2 a custom shop guitar? The seller is advertising as a custom shop guitar, and it has the "custom guitars" circle logo on the back of the headstock. but from my research, I've read that even standard production guitars pre-2004 have the "custom guitars" label. What do you think?

Pushead

No, it isn't a "Custom Shop" guitar.  It was a production line guitar, but that doesn't mean is isn't a high quality instrument.

How much would be a reasonable price to pay for this guitar? I'm in Canada and the seller has it up for $1800 (CAD). He says mint condition with OHSC and COA.

Pushead

It's hard to say, but I think used KH-2s are selling around $1000 USD. I'd check eBay for completed (sold) listings to get an idea.

The prices seem to have inflated around 2013-2014. I remember they were much cheaper. I think I'll hold off on the purchase. Appreciate the help.

Pushead is spot on with his info.

In regards to the price, it seems he is asking a little too much for that guitar.

But.............$1300 CAD would be a good buy if it's mint with the COA and OHSC.

Make an offer and see how you go. I don't recall seeing mint KH2s selling for $1000 US in recent times, but I could be wrong as I don't follow the American market as much as Pushead and the other American members here on the forum.

Here are some recent sale prices from Reverb. Take a look and see what you think.

I'm in Canada also and I've seen the ad.  I think 1800 is too much.

Guiguitarz

It's not a KH-2 but a MM-290 from 1995.

Thank you Guitar Collector

Big Daddy B

I had seen that one and was curious about the serial number

Pushead

It's a KH-2. It has the KH sig at the top. The MM-290 was branded ESP Custom.

Guiguitarz

Ahhhhh yes ! Well seen, the signature ...

So .. following the serial, it's a KH-2 that we can date from 1995 ? ( 12065283 )

And you're right again because of the Nut screws not coming from behind the neck.

ESP 348

Thanks man, I knew it was a KH-2 from the sig also, just wasn't sure the year. Thought it might have been a little earlier than 1995.

But still great as I haven't seen too many 1995 KH-2 NTB guitars that I can remember. The majority would be bolt on necks I reckon from that era I reckon.

Here is another unique KH-2 for sale on Ebay.

Looks legit, has a bolt on neck and the early truss rod cover.

But pay attention to the ESP logo on the head stock and the back of the head stock that has no serial number and some writing there with ESP that I can't make out.

Take a look and see what you think gents.

Pushead

I've never seen that ESP logo before and the "Produced by ESP" on the back makes me think it's a Grass Roots neck.  I'd stay clear. Especially at that price.

ESP 348

Ah, thanks Pus! I couldn't make out what it said on the back, but Produced by ESP is correct by the looks of it.

Thanks for sharing, much appreciated.
