Why do the Lynch guitars weigh so much?

I played the Skulls and Snakes and the Sunburst Tiger at a local store. The skulls and snakes wasn't that bad but the tiger was like playing a brick. I wonder if anyone has tried some way to reduce the weight or can I buy a custom shop that weighs a lot less? Why does George like these things so heavy? I've been a Lynch fan for years and I'd love to have one of his guitars but the thing needs a few changes for me.

Maple baby!

Maple baby!

Because that is the way George likes them. It helps him achieve his signature tone, sustain and bite

They're made entirely of maple, maple is very very heavy. Pick up an old M-1000, I nearly fell over the first time I picked one up, looks like a strat, weighs like a les paul
