Active pickup battery life/status...

    Active pickup battery life/status...

    I just got the EC 1000 ET BB and it's my first guitar with active pickups. 

    How will I know when the battery needs to be changed? Is there an indicator, or will it just die (no volume)?

    As the voltage lowers, you'll notice the sound starts to clip, even on a clean sound. It will also sound very squashed or compressed.

    But you should get tons of time before a new battery dies (I think the website says 2-300 hours?). Just unplug the guitar when you're done playing, and you'll be fine.

        I see your comments on a lot of threads.  You seem to know your stuff.  I have a question myself about active pickups.  I want to put emgs in a LTD H200fm that I ordered online.  I want to buy the pickups to arrive around the same time.  Do you have any idea if I need the long or short shaft pots?  I'm assuming long since they are going through the body and not a pickguard, but I've seen other people say they got the long shafts and even adjusted the knobs stick out real far.  Any suggestions?

          you need short shafts. you only need the long shaft if it's going through a guitar with a thick top that hasn't been routed, like certain les pauls.
