Electronics/Strings

Electronics/Strings

I just bought the LTD B-204SM FL NS. It is a 4 string fretless.

It appears to have come with round wound strings. Not flatwound. I much prefer the flatwounds to get that upright growl. I don't like the brightness of roundwounds.

Is this bass considered to be a long scale or medium scale bass?

Also, the generic user manual doesn't show the layout of the knobs on the bass's body.

I have 5 knobs. And I can't figure it out.

One one hand, it says the bass is passive but the EQ is active. I need help on this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The bass is 34" scale.  By what I've read, people consider short 30" or less, medium scale is 30-33", and long is over 34".  I'd guess regular scale strings will work for you. Just buy a set of flatwounds and have at it.

The knobs are volume (big knob closest to the pickups) and balance (big knob close to the bridge).  The small knobs are the EQ; low, mid and high, from the bridge toward the neck.  The battery in the cavity only controls the EQ.

Thanks so much.
