I want to know if emg passive pickups are any good, and if not, what are the best passives, any brand. Thx -Tsmith541

depends, what are you looking for them to sound like

Velt017

They aren't particularly great. Kind of sound like the active without the active... so none of the good and all of the bad.

If you are looking for a crunchy sound but passive, then I'd look to some of the DiMarzio pickups. They make some great stuff. The D-activators sound pretty good and they get chunky.

Also the Bearknuckle Warpig sounds good too.

I have a duncan distortion in the bridge in my guitar and I love it.

I have the HZ H4 and they sound very good, but in clean....i dont like te sound.I will replace the two pickups with an EMG 81 and EMG 60.

Symour makes an univesal cure sh4. Really good thing, I guess

I had a pair of EMG HZ-H4's in my LTD Kh-202...it squeeld like hell...really pain staking in the ear... so I put a set of MEG 81's in it... and now it has controlable feedback and no squeeling..

I toke out the stock EMG-Hz (H4) on my ESP Alexi Laiho, and put a DiMarzio X2N in. sounds so much better <3

I'd recommend either an X2N, Tone Zone or a D-Activator.
X2N has lots of Bass. lots of output (most output from a DiMarzio I think)
friend says Tone Zone = X2N + Mids. haven't heard it myself
and the D-Activator is delicious
