Question about basses

Ive got a couple ltd guitars and im considering trying a bass. I never owned a bass but I was looking at some and im wondering whats with the big gap on the neck joints on the bolt-ons? Its on the top of the body between the neck and the pickup. Does that somehow allow for adjusting of the neck or something? The neck thru basses dont seem to have it. It looks out of place like something I would want to fill in unless it serves some kind of real purpose.

It's not a gap, it part of the neck extending into the body. It needs to go deep enough to allow a secure bolt. Deeper than the fretboard goes.

Ahh you beat me to it.

That's pretty much what he said.

oh okay. That make sence. Ive got a used b105 on its way to me now. Can I plug into my guitar half stack for now or will that cause any problems?

you will probably blow out speakers. you have to do major adjustments to your settings, just try to wait it out until you can find a cheap ass practice amp. the adjustments on the amp will not even sound like a bass.
