The ESP Guitar Company

hi, does anyone know what type of finish is used on the esp m-ii maple fretboard standard guitar? I got one from 07 and for some reason the finish looks a bit weird. I will try to post a pic but what is bothering me is that if you look at the guitar neck dead on it looks like the 8th fret is darker than the rest. If you tilt the neck at an angle it blends in with all the other frets nice and even. I don't know why this particular fret looks discolored. I was thinking of getting the finish removed for that fret and then getting it reapplied.
