ESP Players Crank Up the Punk at It’s Not Dead Fest 2

Punk rock has been the same since its inception in the mid-1970s... you either get it or you don't. For those who love to tear down the establishment with fast-paced, attitude-soaked tunes, you've been mostly left out in the cold recently in terms of big festival shows. However, this August in San Bernardino, CA, punk will rear its magnificently ugly head in a big way with the It’s Not Dead Fest 2, sponsored by Rockstar Energy Drinks.

Co-headlining the show is Rancid, a band that has rightfully reached legendary status in the punk world. Rancid features ESP player Lars Frederiksen, who joined the ESP artist family last year, and now has his own LTD Signature Series guitar that was just introduced in January. His guitar, the Volsung, is based on the aggressive-looking double-cutaway ESP Viper shape, but that's where the similarities to any existing guitars end. The Volsung is even more streamlined and slimmed-down than a standard Viper, keeping its weight light and making it perfect for energy-filled shows like those for which Rancid is famous. Its finish, called Danish Camo Satin, is a way for Lars to pay homage to his family's roots in Denmark. While the guitar is comfortably light, there's nothign lightweight about its sound... it's powered by a set of special pickups customized by Lars from Seymour Duncan that are only available on the Volsung.

In addition to Rancid, It's Not Dead Fest 2 will showcase The Casualties, a band featuring ESP players guitarist Jake Kolatis and bassist Rick Lopez. Jake is often seen with his LTD V Series guitar slung low, while Rick plays a cool LTD PT-4 bass.
